The Warburton Souling Play
One of the oldest traditions in Cheshire.
at 8:15pm on the 11th of November hold on to your seats as the Warburton Souling play takes over the pub.
What is a Souling Play? Well, in its simplest description it is a play of death and revival and is closely related to the more common Mumming Play. However, it is very much a Cheshire tradition and, unlike the Mumming Play that is performed at Christmas, the Souling Play is performed at the beginning of November. In some cases the 31st October was the performance day and in others including the Warburton play it is the 1st November, yet others were thought to be on All Souls Day itself, the 2nd November.
The Rope & Anchor is showcasing an award winning one women play. Winning awards in the prestigious Manchester & Edinburgh fringe festivals.
The play is written by Rob Johnston and performed by Emma Romy-Jones.
The play is set in 1823. The industrial revolution and changing world.
Helen works their farm alone while her husband toils in the factories of an industrialised Manchester.
As the harsh winter bites, Helen realises that its not only the world that's changing.
An exploration of the challenges faced by a 19th century working women as she attempts to navigate a changing world- and a changing life.
Tickets cost £5.
Book in for dinner by 7pm and enjoy an amazing theatre experience.

Visited here today with my boyfriend and we both opted for the turkey roast dinner. The pub is gorgeous and the roast was honestly one of the best I've had. Very generous portion and every part of it was so tasty. All the staff were very tentative and friendly. Will definitely be back again very soon.
We went to a private function held in an outside room. The heating and log fire was fantastic. The staff were so obliging and the food good. I ordered fish and chips and it was wonderful. There were 28 of us and everyone seemed to enjoy the food.
Beautiful food in a scenic, peaceful setting. Friendly helpful staff, great ambience. Food is of high quality, tasty and flavoursome. Great menu, lovely old building. Can't fault it!
